Basic Things you must know.

You are trying  to rank your house cleaning website, Right?

Let’s think, What would you type into Google?

Think of a few terms you someone would search to buy find your business. Now, head on over to Google Trends to see how popular a particular term actually is. There are other tools/apps that you can purchase, but Google Trends gives you a solid idea of what you should be optimizing for.

Knowing what people are searching for is a very important step. You don’t want to rank for terms that knowbody is searching. I’m not saying you won’t find a “seceret” keyword that brings you tons of traffic. Just don’t make a term that gets 5 searches a month a main priority.

Your next step will be to find out what words Google suggests.

Google suggested searches are good to optimize for because obviously it’s right there for people to click. I rarely finish typing my term into the search bar. Google just knows what you want, and it’s a good idea to listen to their advice. I mean it is their search engine!

3 types of search results

-Google Business (Maps)

-Ad words (paid ads)

-Organic

What terms pull a Google Business listing?

Some changes have been made to Google Business within the last few years. The most recent change has been to list the top 3 rather than top 7. This has been a huge change and business’s that are in the top 3 have seen an increase in calls, however the listing that were ranked 4-7 have seen a dramatic decrease.

Google Business listings are essential to local search results. Sometimes Google will even place maps results above paid Ads. These terms are important to rank for since Google uses a blened algorithom to rank listings. Organic search results play a big roll in that, So it will help to rank for those words.

Google Ad word (paid ads)

Ad words can be tricky and get’s expensive in a hurry if you don’t know what you are doing! It takes time to set up a good campaign and you would be suprised at the number of negative keywords you should be using. Ray over at Maids in a Minute has been in the cleaning industry for 6 years and is also an seo specialist. If you are looking for some help setting up a campaign I highly recommend getting in touch with him.

It is a great time to run an Ad words campaign. Google just made a change to Ads making them green, opposed to the yellow Ad symbol they used in the past. I can only speculate at this time, however I think this makes Ads a lot more clickable.

Organic search results are absoultly essential to your websites sucess. Not only will you get clicks from ranking in the top ten. It will directly benefit your business listing!

Before you run your paid ads or worry about ranking your Google business listing,  you will need to set yourself up to rank in the organic results.

This is why step one, “keyword research” is so important. Ideally, you want to create a landing page for each key phrase you would like to rank for. You might want to rank for “House Cleaning Madison”, Well then it only makes sense to make a page for House Cleaning Madison. Now write unique content that is relevent to what your page is about. You can write about the city or your topic, but it can be tricky writing unique content if you are optimizing for multiple cities, So creating city content is always a good way to increase your word count.

5 things you can do to keep a competitive edge!

-Rank for longtail

Using longtail keywords can be super effective for local businesses. So, rather than trying to rank for “House Cleaning Madison”. I might try to hit the longtail keyword “best house cleaning city” or “professional” ect, ect.

-Write blogs

Writing blogs is one of the best things you can do to keep your site active. Google loves sites that are constantly creating new content, and most of your competitors probaly haven’t written a blog post since their site was made in 2011.

-Get Backlinks

A backlink is a link from someone elses site that goes to your site. The best way to get someone to link to you is by creating awesome blogs and letting people know about it!

-Stay Social

Let’s face it, Social media has changed the internet. Google defenitly looks at the activity on your social media and uses it as a ranking factor. It also helps drive traffic to your website and guess what? That will help your website rank as well.

-Get Reviews

Getting reviews on Google business is always a good idea. If you are ranking in the maps and have great reviews, you are likely to get more clicks.
